MSP's Inspiring Visit to Gairloch Development Trust
Introduction
Maree Todd, MSP for Caithness, Sutherland & Ross, recently visited Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum (GALE) to engage in profound dialogue about key areas of mutual interest , including mental health wellbeing and self-directed support.
An Insightful Meeting with GALE’s Core Team
During her visit, Maree met with Cory Jones, the Chair of the Board of Directors, and Janet Miles, the Managing Director of GALE. Mr. Jones expressed appreciation for the Maree’s visit, stating, “It was a great opportunity to discuss how GALE supports our community wellbeing through a variety of initiatives such as a befriending service and reducing social isolation through the activities at our community hub, the GALE Centre.”
The Revival of the "Pay What You Can" Initiative
In tandem with the MSP’s visit, GALE proudly announced the return of the heart-warming “Pay What You Can” initiative at the Centre’s Community Café, starting from the 8th of January 2024. Amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis, this initiative is designed to foster an ever-constant domino effect of kindness in the community.
The Community Café will continue to offer its regular menu, with the only difference being the payment method – patrons are encouraged to simply pay what they can. It’s socialising at a cost everyone can afford. If you want to support GALE’s work you can pay it forward through cash donations during your visit or via their website. The community café upholds its welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that regardless of financial circumstances, everyone can enjoy the warmth, food, and company without any pressure.
“At a time when so many are struggling, the importance of being able to socialise and spend quality time with friends should not be underestimated,” said Janet Miles, reflecting on the relevance of the initiative.
