What Next for Tourism?

Tourism Planning

Our community has a love hate relationship with tourism. On the one hand it brings jobs and opportunities but on the other it damages our environment, degrades our infrastructure, clogs up our already scarce services and dominates our housing market.

There has to be a better way of doing tourism across Gairloch & Loch Ewe. One that will bring lasting benefits to the resident population, economy & environment. Local people are coming together to explore this very issue thanks to support from the Social Enterprise Academy’s Reimagining New Futures Together Programme.

Recently Community Out West Trust, Wester Ross Biosphere, Gairloch and Wester Loch Ewe Community Councils, Gairloch Museum and GALE got together to start the conversation.  Marie MacRae, Director of GALE was one of the attendees – ‘this was an interesting open discussion considering how our community would like to see tourism develop in the future.’

We plan to meet again, working collaboratively to make our area a better place to work, live and for tourism. If you’d like to join the conversation and shape the future of tourism in our area, please complete the contact form opposite.
