Scottish Diaspora Tapestry

We are very excited that GALE is involved with a project to stitch one panel of a large tapestry depicting the Scottish Diaspora. The diaspora is the name for the migration of Scots to may countries across the globe, taking their culture and heritage with them. The stitchers of Gairloch and Loch Ewe will make a panel connecting the Loch Ewe area to Russia during the Arctic Convoys of Word War II. The project is led by the team behind the Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry and 25 countries are taking part, say the team, “to pay homage to the increible determination and courage of Scots over the centuries”. A group of stitchers will  meet weekly at The GALE Centre to complete the panel, with help from members of the community each adding a few stitches. Please contact us if you’d like to be a part of this exciting project.
