2001-2002
During the winter of 2001 a new European funding programme for community-based projects was launched. GALE was employed to write a development plan for Wester Ross and establish a suitable means of managing the new funds locally. This resulted in the launch of the Wester Ross Community Economic Development (CED) Programme.
After considerable community consultation throughout Wester Ross the local communities formed the Wester Ross Alliance to deliver the CED Programme.
From July until November 2002 GALE provided support to the group on a consultancy basis, processing funding applications and dealing with applicants’ enquiries prior to the Alliance recruiting its own staff. This work not only assisted the regeneration of the Gairloch area but also provided vital funds for the work of GALE, in the form of consultancy fees.
