BefriendingGALE has made remarkable strides over the past year in its mission to combat isolation and foster community connections. New Leadership and Training
One of the pivotal developments this year was the appointment of Donna Miller as the Volunteer Programme Co-ordinator. Under her leadership, three new befrienders were trained, further enhancing the capacity of the service to reach those in need. Donna’s commitment to the mission has been evident as she actively recruits new service users and care-takes Ullapool’s befriending service, ensuring that more individuals have the opportunity to benefit from the companionship and support offered.
Future Service Upgrade
BefriendingGALE has also been working diligently behind the scenes to expand its services in the Gairloch area. The introduction of the Home from Hospital Scheme is an exciting development, promising to provide crucial support for individuals transitioning from hospital back into their homes. While details and launch date on this initiative are still forthcoming, it showcases the organisation’s dedication to addressing the diverse needs of the community.
Partnership with Highland Hospice
In partnership with Highland Hospice, BefriendingGALE continues to offer flexible support through face-to-face or phone services, which is vital in maintaining connections, especially for those who may have difficulty accessing in-person support. Harry Tedstone, Community Engagement Officer at Highland Hospice, highlighted the importance of such collaborations, emphasising that these partnerships not only enhance service delivery but also strengthen the local social care safety net during challenging times.
