Additional Support Needs Workshop

Tuesday 7th October 10:00 - 14:00

The Shieling

How can we better include people with additional support needs in our community?

Following on from a piece of research that GALE carried out in 2023/24 on the barriers to community engagement faced by people with additional support needs, we are hosting a peer-led workshop in which we will explore a range of topics around this issue. We are inviting anyone within the community who are involved in local community groups, organisations or committees to come along and share their experiences and discuss possible solutions to these issues.

We plan to discuss a range of topics including;

  • Are there any common barriers across organisations or common solutions?
  • Can we collaborate to overcome some of the shortfalls?
  • How can we reach individuals with additional support needs, including those who suffer from social isolation?
  • Do these solutions require funding or time (or both)?

These topics will be explored through a range of peer led workshops, open discussions and Q&As.

How can I get involved?

If you are part of a local community group, organisation or committee then you are welcome to attend. If you would like to attend and/or run a short session, please contact Charlie beforehand so we can gauge numbers (charlie@galeteam.co.uk)

What if I can’t make it?

After the workshop we will write up a summary of what we found and we will publish this in the GALE blog.

Tea, Coffee and Light Refreshments will be provided.
